Background

In June 1971, President Nixon declared the War on Drugs identifying drug abuse as "public enemy number 1”. Two years later, in July of 1973, he created the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) to combat "an all-out global war on the drug menace."

The DEA epitomizes the failures of the drug war. It has led the charge to make our country the global leader in incarceration. Globally, the agency has been accused of collaborating with drug traffickers, violating the laws of other nations and fueling violence abroad - and it regularly publishes policy papers on certain drugs, such as marijuana, that contradict the medical evidence about the impact of the drug.

The War on Drugs has perpetuated mass incarceration and violence around the world. Its tactics at times have violated international law and are founded on bogus policies that contradict science. We have wasted trillions of dollars, and most importantly, there has been absolutely ZERO impact on the amount of drug use in the United States.

Join us to "Just Say No!" to the DEA.
