Hedge fund titan Dan Loeb loves a rumble.
So it is probably not a surprise that he took to the Facebook page of a group of protesters to “like” its announcement that they plan to crash a fundraiser the hedgie is holding for Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Saturday.
The $5,000-a-plate fundraiser is taking place at Loeb’s multimillion-dollar spread in East Hampton.
The protest group, the HedgeClippers — a loose coalition of left-wing activists who have been protesting against billionaires at several events this year — plans to demonstrate at 6 p.m. in front of Loeb’s estate.
The HedgeClippers’ announcement received about 15 “likes” on Facebook — including one from Loeb, who runs the $17.5 billion Third Point hedge fund.
The billionaire hedgie has worked closely with Cuomo on the issue of charter schools — where he and the governor have already locked horns with the HedgeClippers, which includes teachers-union activists who oppose the privatization of education.
While Loeb is a registered Democrat, he famously turned against President Obama and supported Mitt Romney in the last presidential election. He has yet to endorse a presidential candidate for 2016.
Loeb’s pro-gay marriage activism puts him at odds with many Republican candidates, sources close to Loeb point out.
