We must mobilize like never before to show Senator Schumer that there is overwhelming grassroots support for voting rights, and that we will be holding our Senators accountable to pass the For The People Act without letting the filibuster get in the way.
The For the People Act (HR1/S1) is the most critical voting rights legislation of our lifetime, and its fate will be determined in the next two months. The bill seeks to prevent partisan gerrymandering, strengthen the right to vote, lessen the influence of big money in our politics, and restore ethical norms. It’s a desperately needed response to decades of voter suppression and other anti-democratic assaults, like the Jan. 6 Capitol uprising.
Right now, states across the country are proposing Jim Crow-style voting restrictions, from massive voter roll purges to onerous new ID requirements that are hard for low-income and Black and brown people to meet. Between just January and May of this year, 14 states passed 22 laws to restrict voting rights, a record.
Join us for this peaceful demonstration of grassroots power. We will not be making a lot of noise during the late-night hours, but we will have a presence!
