Right now, states across the country are proposing Jim Crow-style voting restrictions, from massive voter roll purges to onerous new ID requirements that are hard for low-income and Black and brown people to meet. Between just January and May of this year, 14 states passed 22 laws to restrict voting rights, a record.

The For the People Act (HR1/S1) strengthens the right to vote, lessens the influence of big money in politics, and restores ethical norms. It’s a desperately needed response to decades of voter suppression and other assaults on democracy, such as the Jan. 6 Capitol uprising.
And critically, the #ForThePeopleAct also creates independent redistricting commissions to prevent partisan gerrymandering. We have just weeks left to pass it before states start redistricting.
