THE FUNDRAISER IS CLOSED!
THANK YOU so much to everyone who gave to our crowdfunder to bail out Black mothers and reunite them with their families! We have paid the pail of NINE mamas this week, with bails ranging from $750-$10,500. We are no long accepting donations—all remaining money is being used to bail out more mothers next week.
The bail system is racist, antiquated, punishes the poor and should be abolished—no mother should be separated from their children because of their inability to pay bail.
Special thanks to National Bail Out for their support, solidarity, and mentorship!
UPDATE: We have reached our goal, but there are still more mamas to help! The Brooklyn Community Foundation will give us an additional $5,000 if we can get to $55,000. Keep giving!
Bail out Black Mama’s this Mother’s Day in NYC!
VOCAL-NY is pleased to present the second annual NYC Chapter of the Black Mama Bail Out Day! All over the country, communities are coming together to show love and support to our Black mothers who are separated from their families because of the punitive cash bail system. Here in New York City, bail bonds companies take advantage of those who are most vulnerable—and unfortunately due to the inaction in City Hall and Albany, that won’t stop anytime soon.
We need to raise $30,000 by May 11th to pay the bail of as many mothers as we can. Please join us and help to bring a mother home to her family!
This fundraising effort is inspired by the National Bailout's Black Mamas Bailout, which works to reunite incarcerated Black Mothers with their families across the country, and builds community through gatherings that highlight the impact of inhumane and destructive bail practices on our communities.
